The school was opened in 1896 as a Board School for Boys, Girls, and Infants. In 1933 it became Senior Boys and Girls and Infants, and in 1946 became Drayton Road Secondary Modern for Boys. In 1952 the school was renamed North End Modern School for Boys, and Brunel Secondary Modern in 1968. The Infants School was renamed Meredith Primary in 1968.
