Immediate source of acquisition

The photographs were acquired by the Society in June 2003 from the Hon Ivor and Christine Lucus of Newstead Way, London. Molly Bates was Christine's aunt.

The photographs were found among the papers of Molly Bates (c1897-1998).

Administrative / biographical background

Pat and Molly Bates appeared to have travelled in Kashmir in the late 1920s and 1930s and the photographs are labelled, if not even taken by Molly. Molly married Pat Bates, an Indian Army Officer (possibly an engineer), in1923.
