Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Lodge of Unity [Moderns] and general correspondence relating to the running of the lodge. Years 1805 - 1809 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

The Lodge of Unity No. 267 was named and established in 1788 and met at the Dog Tavern, Deansgate, Manchester. In 1816 the lodge left Manchester and moved to Salford, Lancashire, meeting at the Queen's Arms, Chapel Street. In 1826 the lodge moved back to Manchester, meeting at the White Lion, Deansgate . In 1836 the lodge moved to Hulme, Lancashire, meeting at the Wheatsheaf, Angel Street but in 1839 the lodge returned again to Manchester, meeting at the Crown, Deansgate. In 1844 the lodge moved from Manchester to the Macclesfield Arms Hotel, Jordan Gate, Macclesfield, Cheshire. The lodge now meets at the Masonic Hall, Riseley Street, Macclesfield.
