Following 'his Majesty's Proclamation recommending Economy in the use of Food' magistrates recommended to those procuring provisions for the poor slightly salted fish "as a cheap, wholesome and nutricious Food", particularly because of the quantity of local fish and the reduction in salt duties on fish for internal consumption.

Prisoners in gaol and bridewell at Bodmin in future to be allowed daily 1lb. of bread, made in equal parts of wheat and barley meal, and 1½ pints of boiled rice mixed with water, milk and treacle, unless gaoler needs to increase amount of rice at his discretion, in order to lessen the consumption of grain. [See also QS/1/7/80 concerning shortage of food]

Prisoners in gaol and bridewell to be allowed to receive half their earnings during their imprisonment when the keeper "shall think proper", and the remaining half to be paid on discharge. [Then follows that a quarter be retained by the "Gaol and Bridewell keeper for his own use and benefit" and the remaining quarter "be paid by him to the Treasurer.. as part of the County Stock"!]

James Cowling, lab., and Ann Ham, widow, both of Altarnun, indicted for taking five fowls and two geese, property of William Burnard: A.H. acquitted J.C. received three months' hard labour in bridewell, and then public whipping in Bodmin.

Thomas Burgen of Tywardreath, lab., indicted for assault and battery: six months in bridewell, and fined 20s., to remain in custody until fine paid.

Sessions to be adjoined to St. Austell on Tuesday, 10 Feb. next "by virtue of the Act passed in the last Session of Parliament for making better provision for the maintenance of the poor and for diminishing the consumption of Bread Corn...."
