Administrative / biographical background

Cynthia Taylor (nee Adams) was born in 1924 in Oldham. Her parents, Elsie Howcroft and John Taylor Adams were married in 1919 and went to live in Belgium. Elsie Howcroft had trained as a teacher but she went into Platts Munitions Factory during the 1914-18 war and she also worked as postwoman. John Adams had a hardware shop in Market Avenue, Oldham which had been in the family for three generations but he gave this up in 1939 to go into the army.

He was a member of the army concerts party.
