Receipt, signed Joseph Clayton, to E. Downes Esq., for "a certain surrender indorsed 'Mr. Downes Surrender to Legh & others for the use of Pott Chapel', reference to Pedigree P:M:12". On the back of this receipt, in pencil, in another hand, is;- "Correspondence with Mr. Ormerod & others relative to the pedigree of Downes of Downes Taxal with Schriggeley".
