Description (What the record is about)
-
This collection consists substantially of documents of the various Battalions of the Royal West Kent Regiment, and its predecessors, the 50th and the 97th Regiments of Foot. The 50th Foot was first embodied in 1756, and the 97th in 1824. These two regiments were linked as the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the Royal West Kent Regiment in 1881, this being part of a general reform of the Army. Additional Battalions were raised in both the World Wars of the twentieth century, but the Regiment was reduced to a single Battalion in 1948. There are also records of Volunteer and Territorial Battalions, and the Regimental Depot and Museum.
