Description (What the record is about)
-
These papers, which cover the period 1905-1912, were among the Folkestone Borough Records transferred to the Archive Branch Office from the Town Hall in 1977. They were in very poor condition and have been repaired by the Kent Archives, Maidstone. The Incorporated Soldiers & Sailors Help Society existed to assist discharged soldiers, sailors and marines, both financially by loans and payments, and by helping to place them in employment. These records are of the Elham (Shorncliffe) Branch and consist, for the most part, of letters received by the Assistant District Head, Colonel E.J. Skinner, D.S.O. of Uplands, Folkestone
