Hove was incorporated as a borough on 8 August 1898 and received a separate commission of the peace on 29 January 1904. Before the incorporation of Brighton in 1854 Hove came under the jurisdiction of the Brighton Division, and from 1854 until 1904 Hove formed part of the Hove County Division. From 1 April 1974 the Borough and County Divisions merged to form the new Hove Division.
