The document described here was presented to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter by Ransom Pickard in 1923 and has been deposited in this office by the Museum.

Administrative / biographical background

Hartland Abbey was the senior Augustinian house in Devon and, at one time, one of the largest houses of the order. Geoffrey de Dynham founded the abbey in the late twelfth century and the Dynham family remained patrons until the abbey's dissolution in 1539.
