These papers were, apparently, originally kept in bundles in a chest of drawers at Wentworth Woodhouse. Most of them were later stored in a large chest and a smaller wooden box
They were used by the Earl of Albemarle when he was compiling his 'Memoirs of Rockingham' (1852), and the smaller box appears to have contained the papers which the Earl took away from Wentworth and subsequently returned
Although a few of the papers remained in their original bundles, the Earl had rearranged most of them and left them in some disorder. The papers were, therefore, partly rearranged again when they were received at Sheffield Archives, and in many cases the reference numbers they were given at first were subsequently changed
WWM/R/6-8 now incorporated in WWM/R/1
WWM/R/73-80 now mostly incorporated in WWM/R/1, with a few items placed in WWM/R/2A
WWM/R/126 all now incorporated into WWM/R/1, except for WWM/R/126/38 which is re-numbered as WWM/R/2A/5
WWM/R/131 all now incorporate in WWM/R/1
WWM/R/158 all items now incorporated in WWM/R/1, except for WWM/R/158/127 which is re-numbered as WWM/R/2A/2
WWM/R/166-167 all items now incorporated in WWM/R/1, except for WWM/R/166/9 and WWM/R/166/47, which are renumbered as WWM/R/2A/8 and WWM/R/2A/37
