The St. Hilda's Lodge No. 240 was established in 1780 and met at the Golden Lion Hotel, King Street, South Shields, Durham. In 1780 the lodge was named the St Hild's Lodge but in 1849 the spelling was changed to St Hilda's Lodge. The lodge now meets at Freemasons' Hall, Ingham Street, South Shields.
