Note: By a stipulation made at the time of deposit the identity of the five containers, in which the documents were received has been preserved and so classification has been possible only to a limited extent. The subject index has therefore been expanded to assist the identification of document classes. All dates in this Calendar are New Style.

Administrative / biographical background

The Westacre Estate was purchased by Henry Birkbeck from Thomas A.H. Hamond in 1897 - 1898, but Nick Hamond continued to act as agent for the estate
