White envelope 11.5x17.5cm. Containing copy of a letter d/d 18/9/1749 to Mr.Harris (Christopher Harris of Hayne, Devon: in 1690 John Borlase md. A Lydia Harris of Hayne) on his departure with his party from the district, evidently from one of the Borlases. Contains a description of a "Skimmington riot", said to have taken place in Penzance before "a vast concourse of people from all parts of the country, no less than 3,000" and of the ensuing trouble between the male and female parts of the population.
