Abstract of title of Mr. William Eaves of several houses and land in Hill Street and the Town Wall Coventry reciting 27, 28 Jan. 1792, conveyance (lease and release) for £240 from Benj Dickens of Coventry gent and Abraham Taylor of Coleshill Warws. (devisees and trustees appointed in the will of Elizabeth Griswold) to Henry Griswold of Putney Surrey labourer son and heir of Elizabeth Griswold and Robert Shilton of Coventry yeoman and John Bosworth of Coventry gent (trustee of Robert Shilton), of, property in Fleet Street Coventry called 'The Hole in the Wall' devised on Elizabeth Griswold by Sarah Smith. The trustees to convey the property within 12 months of the death of Elizabeth Griswold, Elizabeth Griswold having died, the trustees conveyed the property to Robert Shilton for £240. Usual covenants, re. 22 May 1792, mortgage by demise for 1000 years from Robert Shilton and John Boswell to James Soden, John Clarke, Thomas Collett and John Whitwell of Coventry Aldermen; to secure £50 on the above property as a security for a loan of £50 for 9 years from Sir Thomas White's Charity loan money, from Coventry Corporation to John Moore and Mathew Shaw of Coventry weavers, the property will be restored if the mortgagors pay the mortgagees £50 on or one month after 22 May 1801, or within a month of John Moore's leaving the city. Usual covenants; re; 18 July 1822, receipt endorsed for £100 in discharge of two sums of £50; re; 30 July 1808, probate copy of the will of Robert Shilton devising to his friends, John Bosworth of Coventry, maltster, James Walter of Coventry warehouseman, his brother in law, Robert Knowles of Breedon Leicestershire, all his houses, rooms, gardens in Coventry, the testator purchased from Banjamin Dickens, Abraham Taylor and Henry Greswold, to convey to Jane the testator's wife for her life, then to James his son paying him £30 a year interest for maintenance, during his minority, the estate is not to be affected by the acts of any husband if Jane Shilton remarries, if James the son of the testator dies the executors are to sell the estates by auction to pay debts dividing the residue between John, Rebecca and Sarah Knowles, sons and da's of Robert Knowles, brother in law of the testator. Usual covenants; re; 15 June 1824, agreement between John Crockett of Coventry yeoman and Jane his wife (formerly Jane Shilton) and James Shilton of Coventry ribbon weaver her son and Thomas Hine to levy a fine, to the use of Jane Shilton for life to the use of John Crockett for her life in trust for James Shilton, re, Trinity Term 1824. Final concord. Thomas Hurne plaintiff, John Middleton, Sarah his wife, John Crockett, Jane his wife, James Shilton and Joseph Paice Maken deforciants, re 26 houses, 10 gardens, one acre of land in Coventry; re 7 June 1824. Mortgage by demise for 2000 years to secure £500 at 5% interest from John Crockett, Jane his wife and James Shilton to Basil Good of Solihull, Warws, gent to John Clarke of Coventry Esq and Richard Holland Good of Allesley, Warws, gent (trustee for the mortgagee) of several houses newly built by John Crockett, Jane his wife and James Shilton by the town wall, contracts to be sold. Mortgage and interest to be repaid by 7 December 1824, with interest insurance monies. £500 insurance against fire. Mortgagee to occupy property in default of payment, insurance money, re the children of James Shilton to be paid to Basil Goode if all the children die, indenture 22 May 1792 recited, mortgages of £50 and £50 to John Clarke deceased have been paid, and his sons Francis, John (party to this conveyance) and Yardley have proved the same, subsequent to their father's will, John Clarke only surviving; re, 1 Nov. 1827, assignment of the above mortgage for the residue of the term of 2,000 years to secure £600 with interest from R.H. Goode to Jane Conway of Coventry John Conway of Coventry victualler and Thomas Ball Troughton of Coventry, gent, B. Goode having need of £500 has called in the initial mortgage and John Crockett, Jane his wife and James Shilton have finished the construction of the house thereby increasing their value. If the mortgage at 6% interest is paid by the 1st of May next it is extinguished. If not the mortgagees may enjoy the estate after default of payment. Mortgagees have power to call in the mortgage of £600, and to vary the security and have power to examine the application of the money. R.H. Goode covenants that he has not encumbered the property; re; 1 Nov. 1838. Assignment of mortgage for £630 from William Conway to Mark Conway of Coventry, gent, re mortgage of 1 Nov. 1827, Jane Conway having died 1 May 1831, John Conway having died, 17 Jan. 1827 and William Conway have called in the mortgage money [this mortgage and the abstract of title are incomplete].
