Mirza Hidayat Allah. By Thakur Rao Gaj Singh, Mughal, c.1710. Richard Johnson Collection. Purchased 1807. Inscribed above in Persian: 'tasvir-i mirza hidayat allah koka-yi a'zam shah' (a picture of Mirza Hidayat Allah, foster-brother of A'zam Shah); below: ''amal-i thakur rao gaj singh' (the work of Thakur Rao Gaj Singh). Gouache with gold; on an album page with outer mauve gilt-sprinkled border. 182 by 95 mm; page 381 by 254 mm. Reproduced: Arnold (1921), fig.5. Mirza Hidayat Allah, foster-brother of A'zam Shah (third son of Aurangzeb), stands in a field facing right, resting his left hand on a sword, and with his right hand slightly raised. He is dressed in a decorated white jama and turban.
