Sequestration is the confiscation of the revenues of a benefice during the suspension of the incumbent, usually for misbehaviour, non-payment of debts or dilapidations, or for non-residence without licence. The sequestrators administered the revenues of the benefice. Unless otherwise stated the papers consist of sequestration bonds and, or royal writs ordering sequestration.
