Enlisted 22.11.15 in the Cameronians at Woolwich and did recruit
training in Cromarty. Volunteered for MGC and went to Lincolnshire for
further training. Went to France with 6 Bde. MGC in the Somme area.
1917 to Chisledon, wilts. for further training and transferred to the
Sherwood Rangers (yeomanry) cyclist Bn as No 14620. Canterbury and went to france in
10 Corps. Cyclist battalion in 3/1916 and did not take part in the
german offensive, but in British 1918 offensive and moved with unit into
Germany. Returned to U.K and to reserve 19.5.1919. Reinlisted in the
MGC 12th Bn. In 1921 transferred to K.O.Y.L.I when MGC disbanded in
Quetta India. 1921 to Mesopotamia with 1st Bn KOYLI. 1922 went to
Malta for 10days before being sent to Ireland because of trouble
there. 1923 to Silesia to form peace force between Poles and Germans,
and after a month to Rhine army. 1925 to Gravesend . 1932 transferred to
4th Bn as PSI 1937 discharged. Recalled 9.12.39 to 9th Bn W.Yorks and
then to transport duties at Tarleton and then on to transport ships as
RSM until the end of the war, went to: N.Africa, Singapore, Russia,
Italy and also Canada. to class Z reserve 30.11.1940.

*civilian life*was a postman until retired age 65. Lived with his
goddaughter free of charge and helped with Rescue animals. Became a
Royal Chelsea Pensioner 15.2.82 aged 83. Died 3 march 1989 in
Westminster hospital.
