The following is a preliminary list of the records which were deposited in the Chester City Record Office on 23 March 1977 by David Hughes and Company, 21-24 Old Bank Buildings, Foregate Street, Chester.

Administrative / biographical background

The firm of Messrs. David Hughes and Company, solicitors of Old Bank Buildings, Foregate Street, Chester, was established c.1915. The firm's predecessor was John Griffiths, solicitor of the same address. Since the early 1930s, the business has been associated with the office of city coroner which has generally been held by one of the partners. The office of coroner for the city of Chester was abolished in 1983.
