ASSIGNATION BOOKS

This series contains assignation books. These volumes usually include the date and place assigned for the next term of the court proceeding hearings, of the proctors (church lawyers) acting in the suits and the fees due to the registrar. The information in them is frequently close to that found in the act books.

The following are examples taken from volumes in this series.

(9 Oct 1912) 'on which day a faculty was decreed to be included in the next Omnibus faculty authorising the vicar and churchwardens of St Mark, Plumstead in the County of Kent and Diocese of Southwark to insert three stained glass windows in the side chapel of the church of the said parish according to the designs now deposited in the Registry of our Consistorial Court' [DS/AB/001]

(6 Mar 1946) 'on which day a minor faculty was decreed to pass the seal authorising the vicar and churchwardens of the Parish of Woodmansterne in the County of Surrey to remove the whole of the present heating system of hot water pipes and to install a new system of electronically heated tubes throughout the church, chancel and organ chamber such work to be carried out in accordance with the designs and specification deposited in the Registry of the Consistorial Court' [DS/AB/005]
