Administrative / biographical background

Mr Godson was contacted at the exhibition mounted at the Anniversary Celebrations of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass near Hayfield, 24 April 1982. He subsequently brought in these items for copying. See attached sheet for further background information.

Mr Godson started work in 1929 or 1930 aged 15, at the Great Central Railway Station in Manchester and joined the A. E. U. aged 16. At the time, he was living in Midway Street in Longsight. He also used to work at Failsworth at one time, then on the Ship Canal, in Shipyards and for the Railways, a Fitter by trade, until he was made redundant under the Beeching axe. He then worked at Avros as a Fitter and at Metrovicks in Trafford Park.

Mr Godson's grandfather, John Godson, was a bricklayer, a member of the Bricklayers' Union, and also an undertaker. Mr Godson's father also followed in the same trades.
