Folio 676. Draft letter from the Local Government Board to James Saunders, Clerk to the East Dereham Urban Sanitary Authority in the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union. They acknowledge receipt of his letter of 28 October 1880 concerning the Officer of Health and state that it appears from the information received by them when Henry Bird Vincent was last appointed Medical Office of Health for the East Dereham Urban Sanitary District, that he agreed to give the Sanitary Authority one months notice of his intention to resign his office or to forfeit such sum as might be agreed upon as liquidated damages pursuant to section III Article 3 of the General Order of 11 November 1872. They further state that in general the acceptance of an officer' resignation by the Sanitary Authority is not necessary to render the office legally vacant. Also as the office in question is now vacant, the period for which Vincent was appointed having expired, the Sanitary Authority should proceed to make a fresh appointment after due notice is given pursuant to the provisions of the General Order of March 8 1880.
