This estate, based on a moiety of the manor of Charnock Richard, was in the hands of a branch of the Hoghtons of Hoghton until about 1710 when, on marrying the heiress of the Daltons of Thurnham, the name was changed to Dalton. The Park Hall estate was sold in 1789 to William German and descended to his great-grandson Henry Alison, who was county treasurer 1860-1916.
