The following records were transferred to Manchester Central Library as Diocesan Record Office from the Lancashire Record Office in 1982, except for the baptism register, 1841 - 1891 and the charity papers which were deposited in May 1988 by Rev. R.M.F. Haigh.

St. George's church was built in 1729 on land given by James, Earl of Derby. It was consecrated on 9 November 1730. It was assigned a District from Prestwich parish by Order in Council, 19 May 1885 (London Gazette, 22 May). In 1902 part of Middleton parish was added to Unsworth, by Order in Council, 11 June (London Gazette, 13 June 1902).
Part of St. George's was added to All Saints, Stand, by Pastoral Order 17 April 1972 (London Gazette, 27 April) and part to St. Peter's, Bury, by Pastoral Order 6 December 1973 (London Gazette, 20 December).
