Description

Grant in perpetual alms by Robert de Ver[e, 3rd] Earl of Oxford to the church of 'Haffeld Regis' and his monks there of the church of his manor of 'Habitune', for the salvation of himself and all his relations, living and deceased; the priory to hold the church with lands tithes meadows pastures and all manner appurtenances free from all secular services and customs to the support of the poor and the maintenance of the hospice. Lest anyone cause abuse or injury to the monks on this he, Earl Robert de Ver[3], has offered this grant of the church to God, St Mary and the monks of 'haffeld' upon the altar of the church in free and perpetual alms.

Witnesses: 'Roberto de Chantelou, Fulcone de Vaus, Willelmo Carbonnel, Helya de Baleol, Gaufrido de Chapelles, Gilberto de Mellefort, Symone de Stanfort, Willelmo de Wateville, Ricardo canon, et multis aliis'.

[Robert de Vere succeeded his brother as 3rd Earl of Oxford 1214 and died 1221. Armorial seal in green wax.]
