The above engine was returned from Boscombe Down on 29 October 1952 for investigation due to difficulties in starting. The following defects have been reported on the engine since first being installed in Wyvern VW.884: 1 Failure of the engine to accelerate above approximately 3000 rpm on starting 2 Reduction in engine speed and sustained reverse torque following the application of negative 'G' to the aircraft 3 High jet pipe temperature with the throttle at the climb gate while fling at 10,000 ft
