The contents of this file were formerly in a portfolio entitled:
W British Coinage Vol. 1

The title and reference are recorded in the contemporary "Index to Correspondence and Documents." Under M. R. Boulton's arrangement the file was placed in iron box I III along with the various other files of British Coinage papers. The file is listed in the Assay Office inventory of January 1921 as "W Coinage British Official Correspondence."

Unfortunately the Assay Office dismantled the contents and discarded the portfolio. Some of the individual correspondents whose letters were contained in this file were recorded in the "Index to Correspondence and Documents," and this has been used to reconstruct the file as much as possible.
