The parish records were studied and listed by the Ringmer doctor and antiquary William Heneage Legge (1857-1911), who published a series of articles in The Reliquary between 1897 and 1907. For a list of these and Legge's other publications, including a biographical sketch, see R Pritchard and J Bleach in 'Ringmer History 2' (1983) 29-35. For Legge's list of the parish records, many of which still bear the numbers by which it is arranged, see P461/10/1.

Several parish documents are to be found among the papers, themselves now dispersed, of the Martin family of Ringmer, who combined the roles of parish officers, builders and local antiquaries. For incumbent's tithe books 1755, 1764-65, 1771, 1777, 1779-80, 1782, 1790-91, 1794-97, 1801-03, 1806-11, a comparison of tithes paid in 1724 and 1749, overseers assessment on houses and lands 1748, and an inventory of Ringmer Poor House, 1820; see ACC 5463. For the original tithe books, see ACC 4224 (1752-53) and ACC 7959 (1757, 1763). For account book of glebe rents and tithes see ACC 7959; for rebuilding of the church, 1884-85, see AMS 5635.

In 1927 documents relating to different matters were collected into folders. Their contents were dispersed in the course of preparing this list for inclusion on the Access to Archives website in 2004, when an opportunity was also taken to augment the existing list. For the original list of the contents of the folders, annotated with the current references of the documents, see PAR461/11/2/1; for a copy of the superseded list, see PAR461/7/6/1.
