Description

A collection of evidences of title etc., relating to the family and estate of General Sir Charles Mansfield Clarke, of Worlingham Hall. General Sir Charles Mansfield Clarke was tenant for life of the Worlingham Hall estate under the will of his grandfather, Sir Charles Mansfield Clarke, Bart of Dunham Lodge Norfolk, dated 18 August, 1857. He sold the estate by auction in 1899 following the death of his father Rev. Sir Charles Clarke, Bart on 25 April, 1899.

The collection contains family marriage settlements, and trust deeds, under which the younger brothers and sisters of General Sir Charles Mansfield Clarke were entitled to various sums.

General Sir Charles Mansfield Clarke originally tried to sell the estate by private treaty and then later opted for a public auction. Following the sale there was dispute over entitlement to commission, between the family and their agents, (Messrs George Durrant & Sons of Beccles), and Hampton and sons Ltd., Estate Agents and Auctioneers of London.
