Hervey Degge Sitwell, CB, CVO, MC, FSA (1890-1973), Keeper of the Jewel House, Tower of London 1952-68, conc. regalia in the Tower of London; mostly c. 1952-66 but including earlier and later correspondence. General Sitwell published The Crown Jewels and other regalia in the Tower of London (1953); 'The Jewel House and the Royal Goldsmiths', Arch. Journal, 117 (1960), 131-55; 'Royal Serjeants-at-Arms and the Royal Maces', Archaeologia, 102 (1969), 203-50; The English Regalia (with Martin Holmes, 1972); Sitwell's notes are used extensively for The Crown Jewels, ed.
