Conveyance of property at Buxted

Although a copy of a map of the Buxted estate in 1654 (AMS6362) does not show a house on the site indicated by the abuttals, a volume of drawings and plans of houses on the same estate in 1798 (ACC 3712) does show buildings on the appropriate sites

It is suggested that the brick house occupied by the Rev Mr Evans (shown on p10) was built on the site of the shop (2 above) - it certainly has a gate into the churchyard on its West -and that the small timber-framed cottage attached on its East and occupied by B Parsons (shown on p11) is the site of the dwellinghouse (1 above). A timber lean-to is attached on the East of the cottage, and may be the building on a portion of former waste to which the abuttal of 1 above refers

The map of 1654 fails to show any of the buildings perhaps account of their proximity to Buxted Church, which is shown in elevation

The endorsement, 73, is in the hand commonly used to identify deeds in the Medley of Buxted archive - see SAS/PN, AMS5896, 5897, 6270 and 6334
