The collection is open for consultation by researchers using Churchill Archives Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge. Individual closures of files are indicated in the catalogue. Churchill Archives Centre is open from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. A prior appointment and two forms of identification are required.

Custodial history

This small collection of Florence Horsbrugh's papers (11 boxes) was given to the College in 1970, shortly after her death. Unfortunately few political papers or correspondence exist, and the most valuable section is her own collection of presscuttings, HSBR 2.

Administrative / biographical background

Florence Horsbrugh was Conservative MP for Dundee from 1931 - 1945; Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Health 1939 - 1945; MP for the Moss Side Division of Manchester 1950 - 1959; Minister of Education 1951 - 1954; Delegate to the Council of Europe and Western European Union 1955 - 1960. She became a Life Peeress in 1959 and died on 6 December 1969.
