NOTE: DD 147/K1-K15 hold documents relating mainly to the Kilham Estate and are dated from late 16th century to earliest 20th century. Most of them, however, relate to the century from mid 18th to mid 19th centuries. They give voluminous information relating to farming methods, tenant-landlord agreements, as well as the day-to-day happenings in Kilham relating, for example, to crops, weather, election, rents.
FILES DD 147/646-811 relate to the Crofton (Near Wakefield) estate. These date from late 19th century to around 1935, though there is one document dated 1967. They give information on development of railways, sewers, arrangements for a Miners' Recreation ground and a golf club, and seem to suggest that it was a time when the Wilsons were disposing of their estate.
-
Arrangement (Information about the filing sequence or logical order of the record)
-
At first glance the documents do not appear to be in proper order, but they appear to have been assembled so purposefully ("H.S.L.W" appears to have approved the assembly of the Crofton papers in February 1877) that they have been left exactly in the order in which they were found.
