Immediate source of acquisition

The custodial history of the records is somewhat confused. The majority of the records listed below were deposited in 1959, although the City Archivist had inspected and listed them in the church in 1931; consequently the records were still in the church when it was destroyed by enemy action in 1940. It is apparent that some records were transferred to the safe-keeping of C P Franklin, a trustee of the parish.

The parish registers were deposited separately from the other records.

Some records were deposited with the records of St Mary Redcliffe by Miss E Ralph in 1994.

Administrative / biographical background

An ancient parish, Temple is also known as Holy Cross. It was united with St Mary Redcliffe in 1956.
