St Cyprian's started as an iron church in the parish of St John, Longsight.
A District was taken out of the parish of St John, by Order in Council, 19 May 1898, (London Gazette, 20 May 1898).
A new church was consecrated on 18 January 1916.
Part of the parish was assigned to St Thomas, Gorton, by Order in Council, 24 July 1925, (London Gazette, 28 July 1925).
In 1957 part of St Agnes, Birch, was transferred to St Cyprian, by Order in Council, 8 October. (London Gazette, 11 October 1957).
Re-housing of the area caused the redundancy of the church, and in 1974, by Order in Council, 10 April, (London Gazette, 18 April 1974), the parish was united with St John, Longsight, as St John with St Cyprian, Longsight.
