The Home was founded in 1926 by Miss M.A. Booker in a small institution for the ordinary convalescent treatment of children at Kingsnorth near Ashford in Kent. In 1927 the Home was transferred to more extensive premises at The Warren, Sompting Road in Lancing. In 1930, at the request of the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street special attention was given to children requiring nursing after treatment for rheumatic heart disease and soon the Home was entirely devoted to this complaint. The Children's Heart Home was constituted under a Deed of Trust dated 7 March 1935 drawn upon behalf of Miss Booker. The Trust Deed provided for the formation of a Charitable Association called The Children's Heart Home, supported by the subscriptions of members of the Association and voluntary contributions.
In July 1948 the administration of the hospital was transferred from the Board of Management to the Worthing Group Hospital Management Committee. The Home was closed on 31 July 1955 when the Ministry of Health and Regional Board transferred its work to Queen Mary's Hospital, Carshalton.
