Overleigh Cemetery was consecrated on 12th November 1850. In 1879 the cemetery was extended on the south side of Overleigh Road and further extensions were necessary in 1904, 1922, 1934, 1948 and 1979.
Originally run as a private company established by an act of 1848 the cemetery was conveyed to the city in 1933.
