Records of West Sussex Record Office additional manuscripts
INTRODUCTION
This, the eighteenth volume of Additional Manuscripts Add Mss has, in general, been compiled along the lines indicated in the introduction to the first volume
This volume contains a number of business records, including the records of the Bognor Gas Light and Coke Company, 1865 - 1957 (Add Mss 13,018-13,109); the City of Chichester Gas Company, 1868 - 1943 (Add Mss 13,110-13,132); and Messrs. Merryweather and Sons, fire engine manufacturers, 1864 - 1870 (Add Mss 13,197-13,202). The maps include early surveys of the Manor of Woolbeding, 1652 - 1842 (Add Mss 13,418-13,425), and maps of Rogate, Harting and Trotton, 1805 - 1849 (Add Mss 13,246-13,249). Apart from deeds of title, the volume includes papers of the families of Palmer of Sullington, 1813 - 1926 (Add Mss 13,203-13, 245, 13,393-13, 407); Haines and Tompkins of Arundel, 1625 - 1965 (Add Mss 13,279-13,352); and Peckham, 1561 - 1908 (Add Mss 13,135-13,185). The documents range in date from the will of William Kaye of Flitcham in Norfolk, 1495 (Add Mss 13,250), to Plans of the Old Theatre in Chichester, 1966 (Add Mss 13,447)
No index has been provided for this volume, as all the relevant details of this, and all previous volumes, have been included in the card indexes of persons, places, subjects and manors, which are to be found in the Search Room of the County Record Office
