On 26 October 1918 during the advance on Englefonteine he made a reconnaisance under heavy fire and discovered that the enemy had forced an entry on the left flank of the division.He immediately returned to his section and brought up four enemy guns and several Lewis guns to fill the gap and kept them firing until the situation became normal. He undoubtedly prevented the left flank from being turned.;
