13 horse power double-acting sun & planet engine, with 20 inch cylinder, 4 foot stroke, parallel motion.Side view of the engine, wheel and shafts for raising water etc.; plan of the engine and wheel; sheet of calculations on the water to be raised etc.; letter from John Southern to Thomas Wilson dated Birmingham, 22 Mar. 1787, sending the drawings; memorandum of parts to be made and calculations etc.
Also the following later items: rotative shaft - reverse drawing marked "From Prince George - Boulton Watt & Co. Cornwall", Oct. 1790; memorandum and calculations re Seal Hole and East Pell Mines, marked "Boulton Watt & Co. Cornwall" (includes sketch of gin).Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 88. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 304.
For Prince George Mine. This engine was one of the "small engines" sold through the agency of Boulton Watt & Co. Cornwall, a partnership between Boulton, Watt, Thomas Wilson and William Murdock established in 1785. The drawings of this engine and the engine for Beer Ferris Mine [see Portfolio 5/1282b below] were kept in one book, which was titled "Little Engines - Prince George - Boulton Watt & Co. Cornwall". The engine was sold to Seal Hole Mine in 1790 and set to work in Jun. 1791.
