Description (What the record is about)
-
The collection comprises 201 glass lantern slides, mainly featuring historic halls, churches and beauty spots in Cheshire (1 - 48), Derbyshire (49 - 119), and Lancashire (120 - 163). Transparencies of subjects in Lancashire are copied from line drawings in publications, not from original photographs. The remaining slides are largely devoted to scenes from the Bible and the verses of well known hymns.
The majority of these lantern slides appear to have been manufactured and sold commercially, rather than produced by amateur photographers. Quality, in general, is very high.
Most appear to be in a very good state of preservation.
