The god Brahma. By a Maithil Brahmin woman from the household of Paramanand Jha, village Sitavarapur, Darbhanga district, Bihar, 1967. Inscribed on the reverse in 'nagari' characters:' nam paramanand jha, mo(halla) sitavarapur, varg 5, umar 90 baras, p.o. mangrauni, zila darbhanga' (name Paramanand Jha, hamlet Sitavarapur, group 5, age 90 years, post office Mangrauni, district Darbhanga). Pen-and-ink and water-colour; 710 by 560 mm. Presented by Mildred and W.G. Archer, 30 March 1960. Note: one of the many paintings commissioned by Pupul Jayakar during the Bihar famine of 1967.
