Administrative / biographical background

This school was built in 1809 and extended in 1863. In 1897 the building was closed for elementary education purposes, the older octagonal part having been condemned by the Board of Education. Later, it was taken over by East Sussex County Council for use as a pupil teachers' centre and for evening classes
