Description (What the record is about)
-
This map shows Makalla Cove in Muscat Harbour, at the site of a British coaling station. The map was drawn up for the purposes of the proposed division of the coaling facilities with France, and depicts the sites of three coal sheds, several buildings for storing tools and other equipment, and the sites of fishing huts, a mosque, and old graves. Contour lines indicate the drainage of gullies and the high watermark of the sea. Several areas are delimited and annotated to indicate sites for further storage of coal and the construction of dividing walls. The map bears two printing statements: 'I[ntelligence]. D[ivision]. W[ar]. O[ffice]. No. 1493' and 'Lithographed at the Intell: Div: W. O. 1900.'.
