Description

Two musicians. Mughal, c.1780. Richard Johnson Collection. Purchased 1807. Inscribed above in Persian: 'tasvir-i mutarribha' (a picture of musicians). Drawing; on an album page with mauve gilt-sprinkled border. 183 by 136 mm; page 492 by 370 mm. One musician kneels while looking at the spectator and playing a 'tambur'; the other seated on the left plays a tambourine.
