Deposited by the Management Committee of the Village Hall in 1967. The management committee is a registered charity whose object according to the register is 'a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of the parish of Shepreth and the neighbourhood thereof without distinction of sex or political, religious or other opinons'. Kelly's Directory of Cambridgeshire 1916 states that the hall was built in 1909 at a cost of £600 and had a reading room and billiards room attached. The prominence of Reading Room in the title of the institution appears to demonstrate a response to the Victorian and Edwardian movement for self-improvement
