A Publicity Officer attached to the Judicial and Public Department was appointed in 1921 to handle India Office relations with the press, especially the provision of information. In 1941a separate Information Department was created, headed by the Adviser on Publicity Questions. From 1948, the Department continued within the Commonwealth Relations Office.
