Description

The series comprises the following groups of files

DR/A/7/1-48 Main series: plans submitted for approval under local building bylaws, Town and Country Planning Acts of 1932 and 1943, and Town and Country (General Interim Development) Orders of 1933 and 1946. For registers, see DR/A/7/54-65

DR/A/7/48-50 Sundry plans of minor alterations not requiring submission to the Planning Committee, applications for permission for the development or change of use of land or buildings under the Battle Town Planning Scheme, temporary buildings and other plans submitted under the Town and Country Planning (General Interim Developments) Orders 1933-1946. DR/A/7/50c-53 Plans of moveable buildings: plans submitted with applications for licenses to allow land to be used as sites for moveable dwellings under Section 269 of the Public Health Act 1936. For register of plans, 1938-1945 see DR/A/7/67

These records were deposited by the Planning Department in February 1981 and derive from its predecessors the pre-1934 Rural District Councils of Battle, Hastings, Rye and Ticehurst, and the post-1934 Rural District Council of Battle and the Borough Councils of Bexhill and Rye.

Administrative / biographical background

Under the East Sussex Review Order 1934 the former Battle Rural District was enlarged to include the former Battle Urban District and the former Rural Districts of Hastings, Rye and Ticehurst (with the exception of Frant and Wadhurst).
