Description

Petitions and memorials addressed to Charles II., Parliament, etc., mostly undated but probably ranging between 1660 and 1680, with a few of an earlier period from 1624; arranged alphabetically under petitioners' names, and accompanied by a few covering letters and other papers.

Included are petitions, etc., of:- George Evans and Will. Cotton, for licence to reprint "Eikon Basilike", f.64b;- William Hill, minister, on disorders in the Fleet prison. f.91;- The Merchant Adventurers, with a "Historie of the Fellowship". ff. 119-129;- The Middle Temple, against building over the gardens of Essex House. f.138;- Henry Rumbold, with statement of his services, etc., 1674, 1679. ff.179-185;- James Cecil, Earl of Salisbury, from the Tower, [1677]. ff.186,188;- Peter Speght, heir of Sir Paul Pindar, on his distressed condition. f.195;- Stephen Upman, tutor to the King's children, for preferment in lieu of salary. f.204b;- Philip, Lord Wharton, from the Tower, [1677]. ff.212b-225.
