Date
1881-1888
Description

In 1887 the West Gloucester Water Company applied to Parliament to expand the borders of its area of supply, this expanded area of supply was to include the parishes of Twerton and Weston. The Bath Corporation initiated an Opposition to the Bill in Parliament, firstly on the grounds that the Corporation already had permission, although no statutory duty, to supply these parishes and had and was in the process of expending significant sums of money to expand its supply in those parishes. Secondly, on the grounds that the Company was positioning itself as a nuisance to the Corporation to try and force the Corporation to purchase the company's works at such time as the said parishes were brough within the boundaries of the borough as was expected.
The Corporation's Opposition was successful and the parishes of Twerton and Weston were stuck out of the Bill; subject the condition that the Corporation obtained a Provisional Order from the Local Government Board equalising the terms under which water was supplied to the parishes of Twerton and Weston with those of the City.
These records contain; petitions, legal briefs, statements and proofs of evidence, Bills as submitted to Parliament, reports, accounts, application to the Local Government Board, correspondence and enquiry papers.
